Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3 makes things more dangerous than Act 1. Before the third and final act, you should have these missed opportunities.
The stakes are much higher in Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3’s Second Act than in Act One, and some very dark stories are told. Adventurers move from the lush wilds of the Sword Coast to the dangerous Shadow-Cursed Lands in Act Two. The things that can happen here are much scarier, but they are definitely worth seeing.
But many of these times can be missed, especially since the Shadow-Cursed Lands’ broken-down streets are hard to get around in. These are some of the most interesting events in Act Two of Baldur’s Gate 3. Players can get the most out of Act Two by completing these before they get to the city.
Explore The Githyanki Creche
People who go to the Shadow-Cursed Lands through Mountain Pass are likely to find the Rosymorn Monastery. The monastery is a beautiful place to explore, and there are fun fights and puzzles to solve inside. That being said, the githyanki creche that Lae’zel has been looking for is deep inside the temple.
When you explore the Githyanki Creche, especially with Lae’zel with you, you may find some interesting tasks and situations. You can do things like take a githyanki egg, try to get rid of the characters’ tadpoles, and even meet Vlaakith, the githyanki goddess.
Find The Last Light Inn
The Last Light Inn is likely to be one of the first places players find in the Shadow-Cursed Lands, especially if they come in through Grymforge. A druid named Jaheira and her Harpers run it. It is a light of hope in the middle of the curse that keeps the darkness at bay.
There are shops, important NPCs to check in on, some pretty strange fights, and secrets to find in the inn. Players are told to meet a priest named Isobel in the room upstairs. However, they should make sure they have seen as much of the Last Light Inn as they can before they talk to Isobel.
Mend Karlach’s Heart
Dammon is a well-known NPC that you can find at The Last Light Inn. The tiefling Dammon is very important to the companion quest “The Hellion’s Heart.” In Act One, players can find Dammon and start this quest in the Druid Grove. However, the second act is where players are most likely to make progress on it.
Dammon is an evil mechanic, and Karlach needs him to fix her heart, which is also made of metal. To complete the task, you must find infernal iron and bring it to Dammon so that he can fix her heart. All of your exchanges with Karlach are heartwarming, which makes this a companion quest that you should definitely do before act three.
Find Arabella’s Parents
Arabella can be found in the graveyard around the House of Healing if she got away from her fight with Kagha in Act One. She will tell the player that she has been split from her parents and needs their help to find them when they talk to her. Ariela can stay at their camp while the players look for them, and it’s there that she makes a strange friendship with Withers.
It’s easy for players to find the parents who aren’t there because they were right next to Arabella. People are likely to find Arabella’s parents if they search the House of Healing. The only thing left to do is for the teams to go back to Arabella. It’s an important quest that you shouldn’t miss.
Assist He Who Was
A shadar-kai elf named He Who Was is one of the more secret enemies in Act Two. They can be found just up the hill from where the Harpers’ hunting party is. If that wasn’t enough to make him stand out, he has a pure white raven with him and is talking to a body through the “Speak With Dead” spell.
The quest “Punish the Wicked” starts when you talk to He Who Was. He wants players to go to The Waning Moon pub and find a ledger to find Madeline, the dead woman he has been talking to, guilty. The players can choose how to handle the problem, but it’s an interesting side quest that would be easy to miss otherwise.
Defeat The Thorms
General Ketheric Thorm, the main bad guy in Act One, is a dangerous enemy. However, he is not the only one in the Thorm family living a bad and cruel life. Three more Thorm bad guys can be found and fought one at a time. It looks like each of them could be a Dark Souls boss, and they fight like one too. Luckily, all three can be solved with talk and some lucky rolls of the dice.
In the House Of Healing, you can find the crazy doctor Malus Thorm. In the Reithwin Tollhouse, you can find the overly committed toll collector Gerringothe Thorm. And finally, Thisobald Thorm runs The Waning Moon, though he seems to have drunk himself out of business a long time ago. All three are worth looking into just for how horribly ugly their characters are.
Infiltrate Moonrise Towers
When players see how bad Ketheric is, they might want to kill him as soon as they can. On the other hand, there is a lot to gain from sneaking around Moonrise Towers before attacking it.
If players go to Moonrise and temporarily join forces with the Absolute, they can find a lot of secrets and even make friends in the Towers. Barnabus is a very nice person who might be a good friend. Players should check out the Towers before going into the Mausoleum near the House of Healing to make sure they can enter Moonrise as a friend instead of an enemy.
Recruit Jaheira Or Minthara
You can add both Jaheira and Minthara to your party in Drive Mad. They are both strong allies. If players did not kill Minthara in Act One, they can find her being tortured in the jail at Moonrise Towers. If players are able to save Minthara from this fate, they can hire her as a servant.
The Harpers’ boss, Jaheira, can be hired during the attack on Moonrise Towers. If players talk to her before the attack, she can join the party for a short time until the fight with Ketheric. The players are given a break when he suddenly leaves in an odd way. Players can talk to Jaheira to publicly add her to the party during this break.
Rescue Moonrise’s Prisoners
A lot of unlucky people are being held captive in Ketheric’s secret mindflayer colony. Before people go down to the mindflayer’s machine to fight him again, it would be better to save their time and resources to save them. Zevlor, the boss of the Tieflings, and other innocent people are in prison. It’s hard to free them because there are many illithids after them, but Zevlor is a huge help in that fight.
Players can also finish Wyll’s task to get Zariel’s devil asset back. It turns out to be Mizora, his own guardian. Engaging with her makes Wyll’s quest for a partner stronger. If they made it through the nautiloid, Us, the intelligence devourer, is even being held captive. For sure, Freeing Us is helpful because it lets people call them.
End The Shadow Curse
Slaying Ketheric is the most important fight in Act Two, but it doesn’t end the shadow curse. This can be done by getting Art Cullagh’s broken lute from Malus Thorm in the House of Healing and waking him up. Halsin is interested when Art talks about a boy named Thaniel. The druid is doing a rite outside of The Last Light Inn to get Thaniel, the fey boy, back, and players need to help him.
Halsin comes back with Thaniel, but the boy is sick and seems to be missing a part of his soul. After this point, players can hire Halsin. The other part of Thaniel is Oliver, a messed-up version of him. The Shadow-Cursed house is where you can find Oliver. If you try to take Halsin there, you will get into a fight. If players beat his shadowed calls, they can get him to go back to Thaniel and end the shadow curse. Getting rid of the curse that was hurting the land is a good way to end Act Two, and Halsin is a strong friend going into the last act.
